MES has many students who are budding authors and love to create books to add to our library! Mrs. Andresen recently added a shelf to showcase these talents. She has collected student author books throughout the years and now puts them on display for other students to read. Thank you for being so supportive of our students' interests and encouraging our young authors!

The Hoopin for Inclusion Fundraiser is quickly approaching! There has been a slight change in the start time on April 29th. The doors will open at 6:00 pm and the wheelchair basketball game will start at 6:30 pm. In addition to the game, there will be concessions, Aurelio's Pizza of Frankfort, Crumbl Cookie, a variety of activities for the kids, and an incredible amount of raffle prizes. Hope to see you there!

Last night’s Touch-a-Truck event was a huge hit! A big thank you to everyone who joined us and to all the local community organizations who brought their vehicles and shared what they do with our students. We loved seeing so many happy faces!
Today our 1st graders were visited by Mrs. Sorci who came to share the story of Winter the Dolphin. She taught the students about how her company made a prosthetic tail so Winter could swim. The students made the connection to the story they read in reading class called "Pierre the Penguin." In the story, Pierre lost his feathers and they made him a wet suit so he wouldn't be cold and could swim.
We loved seeing so many current and past Stars at the MES Dine and Donate Event! Our teachers and staff members had a great time delivering meals to our families! Thank you for your support.
Tomorrow is the day! Mokena School District is hosting a Special Education Family Night on Thursday, April 23 at MES! There will be a variety of trucks to experience, as well as food trucks with food for purchase.

Today starts National Public School Volunteer Week! Thank you to our parents and community members who give so freely of their time and talents, while also inspiring all of us to find meaningful ways to get involved, stand together and encourage greater participation in the work of building a stronger school district.
Five of our district's Illinois State Board of Education Those Who Excel Award winners received their awards at the state's recognition banquet this evening in Bloomington! Congratulations to (from left to right) Ms. Youngblood, Mrs. Swabowski, Mrs. Cheney, Mrs. Fiene, and Mrs. Lavelle. (Not in attendance award winners Ms. Kelly and Mrs. Williams are not pictured.) We are so proud of you and are grateful for the impact you each have on our school community!
Young Athletes is back this May! Students from our preschool programs, MES and MIS specialized instruction classes, and their peer partners will showcase their skills on May 13 or 14! Parents of participating athletes are invited to attend. Please call the MES office to RSVP.

We appreciate the time on our Early Release Day afternoons to work towards our school improvement goals. MES teachers met together to articulate around reading fluency and share instructional ideas with teachers in other grade levels.
