MES students pose during the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new playground

Mokena Elementary School is delighted to announce the grand opening of its newly constructed playground, tailored to inspire and engage students from kindergarten through 3rd grade. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held on Thursday, November 16, marked a momentous occasion for the school community, as it unveils a vibrant and safe recreational space designed to foster physical activity and imaginative play.

Kids and parents alike were excited for the ribbon cutting ceremony. “I haven’t experienced [the playground] yet, but I’m excited for the zipline the most,” Adam, a Mokena 159 student, said. “I’m just excited to be on everything! My favorite is the slides!,” a MES student named Sabrina remarked. When asked why she was excited about the new playground, Brooke Turnbough, parent of two students in the District said, “It’s like three playgrounds in one! My boys are super excited about the zipline!”

The zipline was definitely a fan favorite during the open play time after the ribbon cutting ceremony. Students also enjoyed the TopsyTurny® Spinner and the various ramps connecting different sections of the playground.

Last spring, students at MES had the opportunity to participate in group discussions regarding what they’d like to see on the new playground and then voted on a variety of equipment from NuToys.

This exciting addition to Mokena Elementary School reflects our commitment to creating a nurturing environment that enhances both the educational and recreational experiences of our students, setting the stage for a brighter and more active future.
